5 things to check on your Lion’s Mane.

We read the label of every Lion’s Mane we could find. Most jars miss at least one of these five. Check yours in two minutes.

Is it the mushroom itself?

Look for the words “fruiting body” on your label. Some products are the mushroom itself. Others are mycelium grown on grain, with the grain still in the powder.

What else is in the capsule?

Read the ingredient list. Count everything that is not mushroom: rice flour, magnesium stearate, a “proprietary blend”.

Can you find the beta-glucan number?

It should be a percentage of beta-glucans, measured by a named lab. “Polysaccharides” is a wider number that also counts starch.

Is there a lab report you can open?

Look for a PDF with the lab’s name, a date and a result. A “lab tested” badge is not a report.

Is the species proven by DNA?

A DNA report names the species in the jar. A chemical test cannot do that.

The paperwork

Don’t take our word for it. Take the lab’s.

How we counted: 273 public Lion’s Mane listings from 178 brands, read on 15 and 16 August 2026. A lab report had to be a document we could open; badges and photographs did not count. This is a count of what brands publish. We did not test other brands’ products, and no brand is named. Our own results relate to the samples tested.
