Grifola frondosa
Meet Maitake.
Maitake (Grifola frondosa) is a gift of nature from Japanese culture, valued by people who look after their gut health and a normal metabolism. It grows on the trunks of deciduous trees in clusters of overlapping caps, like a dense fan. Its fruiting bodies hold bioactive polysaccharides and glucan-protein complexes, the D and MD fractions above all. Scientists have studied it for more than 30 years, and its aroma is rich enough for the dried mushroom to be used as a seasoning.

Beta-glucans
Long chains of glucose, naturally present in the fruiting bodies of maitake.
In this extractNaturally present in maitake. The water step of the extraction is the one that draws out the polysaccharides.
On recordIn maitake some glucans are bound to protein. The literature calls two of these complexes the D and MD fractions, and the D fraction has been the subject of published work since the early nineties.
Beta-glucans are naturally present in maitake. The label gives the species, the part used, the ratio and the dose. The drawing is simplified.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
Gut and metabolism. Maitake is valued by people who look after their gut health and a normal metabolism. Scientists have studied its polysaccharides for more than 30 years.
Names given in the literature to particular glucan-protein complexes isolated from Grifola frondosa. They describe compounds found in the mushroom.
Maitake itself is a culinary mushroom and dried maitake is used as a seasoning. This is a 10:1 extract rather than the dried mushroom, so it is made for a capsule, not a pan. The powder is the one that goes into food.
Fruiting body, extracted 10:1. No grain in the jar.
Thirty days, at two capsules a day.
Yes. Fungal extract, HPMC shell.
Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, and anyone under 18, should speak to a doctor first. If you take any medication, mention it to your pharmacist.
Rather stir it in? The same mushroom comes as a powder, for coffee, tea or a shake.
