Ganoderma lucidum is a hard, lacquered, fan-shaped mushroom that grows on hardwood — lingzhi in China, reishi in Japan. It is far too woody to eat, so it has always been taken as an extract. Ours is the fruiting body only, wood-grown, extracted twice in water and ethanol and concentrated 10:1 to 1,000 mg per serving.

Two capsules after your evening meal, or two 500 mg scoops of the powder (1 g) in hot cacao, tea or warm milk. Drops: 2 ml under the tongue. Same time every evening. Follow the dosage on your jar and don’t exceed the stated daily dose.

Because it is real. The bitterness is the triterpene fraction, which only comes out in the ethanol pass. A reishi extract that tastes of nothing is usually mostly grain. If you would rather not taste it, the capsules skip it entirely.

Reishi holds two quite different fractions: water-soluble beta-glucans and ethanol-soluble triterpenes. Water alone leaves the second behind, so the extract is drawn in both and recombined at 10:1.
